21 December turns up with a double bill: winter officially begins and it’s the International Short Film Day — the perfect moment to raise a toast to every short video and small-scale story that packs a punch.
The word “solstice” comes from the Latin solstitium, meaning “the sun stands still”. In Spain, the Winter Solstice will take place this coming Sunday at 10:03 UTC, marking the shortest day of the year and the longest night. And while the sun makes its briefest appearance, it feels like the ideal time to celebrate the kind of short video that captures emotion, atmosphere, or narrative in just a few minutes.
At INNOVA FILMS, we’ve got a real soft spot for the short format — whether it’s a cinematic short film or a beautifully crafted short video made with intention. Creating something short is always an act of love, precision, and pure creativity. It’s the kind of format where every shot counts and every second truly matters. We genuinely believe short formats have a unique ability to connect with people quickly, offering an immediate emotional impact that longer pieces often take much more time to build.
If you fancy seeing a bit of what we do, click the link — you can watch the trailer for the short video (and short film!) we produced for the Ruta del Vino y del Brandy in the Marco de Jerez, which premiered on 6 November. It’s a perfect example of how a short video can capture a whole world in just a few minutes.
So the next 21 December, when the sun slips away earlier than usual, wrap up warm, put on a short video or a short film you love, and raise a glass to the stories that may be brief — but stay with us forever. After all, these short creations often carry the same heart, depth and craft as any feature-length production, just distilled into a more concentrated and memorable experience.
