Some days you wake up craving popcorn… and others the whole world gives you the perfect excuse. World Cinema Day is exactly that: a universal reminder, every second Saturday of February, that the stories projected on a screen — whether in a cinema or on your sofa — are still one of the most magical things humanity has ever invented. And for anyone who loves film production, it’s also a day to celebrate the craft behind those stories. This year’s celebration falls on 14 February — and no, it’s not linked to Valentine’s Day… it’s pure love for cinema itself.

- Popcorn became a cinema staple because it was cheap during difficult times — a perfect companion to early film production screenings.
- The first film in history was “Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory in Lyon Monplaisir“, filmed by the Lumière brothers — a milestone in the origins of film production.
- The longest single-take shot ever made is in the film Victoria, shot in one continuous 134-minute take — a technical feat that pushed film production to its limits.
